I work with ML models too - not the LLM kind, but still I understand enough to see the difficulty of your task at hand. Personally, I think this is the future of gaming. As much as people frown upon everything related to genAI, there's simply no other way to make NPCs feel truly fluid, independent and smart. The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that we've just about reached the ceiling of how advanced AI in games can be if it's done via regular scripting. Managing to connect a local model to the game's logic is going to revolutionize so many things in games.

This is actually amazingly well thought out and complex. I can see why you've been working on it for so long, major props to you guys. This far beyond anything I've tried haha. Having several sub models specifically trained for various task-types is super clever. I've messed with using an orchestrator, and I just started experimenting with using a neural-network type memory layer, but in a much more simple environment, but the problem is ALWAYS context. The models choke so easily when you give them too much context, and over a relatively small amount of time that context can build so quickly. Memory has been the biggest hurdle for me. I think using locally run models to generate dialog, quests, and organic interaction with the NPCs is the next huge break for gaming - and not just for the game. If you can figure out how to get this all working solidly, and prevent hallucinations it'll be unbelievably immersive. Definitely cannot wait to try this project out, will be grabbing it asap whenever it's available.

From what I've seen this may be incredible and if everything is what it seems to be, could be the most potent, broad and deep NPC system ever developed for any game given how strongly your efforts have been to lock the NPC purely to events that take place in-game.

Well, I'm gonna be fine even if this gonna work only on NVIDIA. After all, this is gonna be interesting at least to witness. The actual in-game AI NPC character with non-scripted dialogues in my generation in the active game, where they not only speaking, but support and made challenges! I only imagined this in XXII century.

I'm trying to think about what a future game would look like, assuming you all solve the AI agent NPC problem. What would be fun in the abstract. Puzzle games are all about solving puzzles, and if you have an agent that solves the puzzles there is no game left. I think the RPG angle is the most obvious, but I feel like there may be some new/novel genres that come out of having a tightly integrated AI.

This gives me confidence because it sounds amazing but I imagine how dynamic and ridiculous the game can get at times and find it hard to picture the project holding up. However I'm not a coder or developer, and your team seems confident; if this works out I'm telling you I will never play another game ever again. The videos produced seem encouraging. At the very least it's a seed of the most potent and addicting project ever made. If it works as advertised it will be one of the GOAT.

This is like the perfect application for an LLM. I understand the idea behind resisting the outsourcing of human intelligence to what are essentially supercharged auto complete softwares, but there are some really great uses for LLMs and this is one of them.

Forreal when I saw the post on reddit I had to follow the project now only cause I wanna play it myself, but I think this is the next big leap for gameplay - using LMs to dynamically generate content and control NPCs, etc

Paying by the token for an NPC girlfriend is brutal. Imagine spending 15 bucks just to get hit with the "I'm fine" reply. At least with a local GPU, the silent treatment is free :D

i think the simulating a tiny society aspect is actually really interesting, and the political science student in me gets excited when i hear that lol. it would be really cool to explore those group dynamics more in-depth especially later in the apocalypse. eventually, you and your companions will reach a point where you have shelter, a reliable source of food and water, and at this point these survivors would probably start to think about how best to organize and distribute resources in this little society they've created. i think it would be really interesting if different companions had different ideas or beliefs about how to organize this little society. maybe you as the player arent totally in charge. it would be interesting if you had to listen to someone else, or risk expulsion from the group. these sorts of dynamics are so interesting to me, even if they might be a much longer-term vision

I've built games a bit, and I gotta say wow. That musta taken FOREVER. AI code has always seemed near eldritch to me. That's gotta be obscene amounts of work. This project seems cool as hell

if its done right it defiantly could make a game 1000% more immersive or change how the game feels if i kill 1000s of the undead and some NPCs call me insane whilst some reward me and some dont care at all. that defiantly makes me feel like my actions have ripple effects within the world. that would be supper amazing
